Yesterday I got a call from a Mediacom sales rep asking if I wanted to upgrade from Prime (15 Mbps/1 Mbps) to Prime Plus (50 Mbps/5 Mbps) for $5.00 dollars a month, which sounded interesting. The rep really caught my attention when she stated that the upgrade would also raise my data cap from 250 GB to 350 GB per month. I haven’t decided to whether I’m going to upgrade or not. I’ve done some research on what is being informally termed the “Mediacom Speed Bump Promotion” and discovered the following:
- The speed bump offer does not require contract.
- It costs $5.00 per month for each level you bump up to (two levels maximum) for one year. The second year it will be $10.00 per month and go to full price after that.
- Your first year starts the day the deal is added to your account.
- You will need a DOCSIS 3.0 modem to obtain the faster connection speeds. I was told they will ship this for free via UPS or I could pick one up at their office. The rep also assured me that my monthly modem charge would not increase.
